Earwigs are commonly known as pincher bugs due to the aggressive looking set of pincers they have protruding from their abdomens. While they look like they could inflict damage, the pincers are generally used for defense against other earwigs. While there is an old European myth that earwigs will burrow into a person’s ear while they sleep, that has been debunked as false. Earwigs actually pose very little threat to humans as they are not poisonous and do not spread disease. The most common problem is that earwigs eat sprouts which can devastate a garden. At EcoGuard Pest Management we are experienced and knowledgeable in all forms of earwig treatment methods from local treatment to prevention strategy. EcoGuard utilizes an integrated pest management (IPM) approach and we have been providing earwig control services since 2008. These pests are generally not much of a threat, but they secrete a pheromone that will attract other earwigs which eventually concentrate a large number of earwigs together. This is why it is so important to ensure that an experienced pest control technician finds and treats the problem before an earwig infestation occurs.
EcoGuard offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee for all our customers and we stand by our promise to eradicate your earwig problem. That earwig pest control guarantee comes with every service and if the earwigs come back, then so do we, at no additional cost. We are standing by to give you a free estimate and to help you set your first earwig pest control service appointment. Give us a call today!

European earwig adults are approximately 16 mm long and are rust-brown colored with light-colored wing covers. They are one of the most commonly encountered species and found in many parts of North America.
Red-legged earwig adults are 12 to 15 mm long and are brown to black in color. They are most common in the southern half of the U.S.
These ants are extremely small making them hard to find once they make their way into your home.  They eat protein, and their small size allows them to access areas other larger ants may not be able to.
There are a couple effective DIY methods using a rubbing alcohol and water mixture to spray at earwigs or using boric acid to treat out of reach areas to kill earwigs on contact. That said, for infestations that have gotten out of control, an EcoGuard licensed technician can help support any earwig extermination efforts.
Earwigs prefer to live outside in optimal conditions but will sometimes move indoors to explore undisturbed areas that provide the necessary elements for earwigs to thrive. This means that any areas that are exposed to moisture and remain undisturbed like crawl spaces and basements could be a potential harborage point for earwigs.
Earwigs are attracted to lights and moisture so using dehumidifiers inside and adjusting lighting can have a big impact on deterring earwig populations.
Using preventative measures that cleans up harborage points like piles of leaf litter, dying plant materials, mulch, and vegetation should help keep earwigs away from your home. Exclusion strategies like sealing gaps will also help prevent any earwig problems.
